In order to execute a fine, a federal judge took $3.3 million out of X and Starlink’s bank accounts.
After unlocking X and Starlink’s bank accounts, the Brazilian Supreme Court took $3.3 million out of them to enforce a fine imposed on Elon Musk’s social network company.
At the end of August, Judge Alexandre de Moraes prohibited X from conducting business in Brazil. In addition, he placed Starlink’s assets under freeze, referring to it as X’s “de facto economic group.”
In an announcement released on Friday, the court stated, “[De Moraes] determined that the bank accounts of the aforementioned companies should no longer be blocked upon full payment of the outstanding amount and ordered the immediate unblocking of the bank accounts/financial assets, motor vehicles, and real estate of the aforementioned companies.”
The court stated that a total of 18.35 million Brazilian reals, or about $3.3 million, had been taken out of both accounts; 11 million of those reals came from Starlink and the remaining amount from X.
The corporations were penalized “for having removed its legal representatives from Brazil and for not removing content after an order from the [court] in ongoing investigations,” the court stated.
